A synth is just a shorter way of saying "synthetic." Where I come from, we're a type of... android, I suppose. People with mechanical components. Man-made. Some of us are freethinking and independent, while others haven't exactly been blessed with such assets.
And a hacker is basically someone who's retained exceptional skills when working with certain types of computers or artificial intelligence. They can break into the software and adjust its workings to benefit them in some way. Maybe access information that was otherwise locked down or hidden from the average person.
It does, thank you! I feel kind of behind with all this stuff, I come from a time where we don't have much technology. These little phones you can carry around in your pocket? They're amazing!
So I've never met an android before. What's it like? Are there many where you come from? Is being a hacker a usual thing?
Oh, feel free to not answer them if you don't want to!
You're quite welcome and really, it's no trouble at all. Believe me, people have asked me far more impractical questions.
And honestly? For many of the people here, I come from a world hundreds of year ahead of their future. Yet somehow? These handy little cellular telephones haven't been invented. Probably due to the fact that radio communications weren't exactly thriving like they used to be... but still, I definitely agree that they're extremely practical.
As for your questions... I'll try and save you the earful of an answer. I come from an Earth that's basically been obliterated by nuclear war. Civilization isn't thrives on in its own, desperate sort of way. But it's a life they're used to. Even comfortable with. My physical body now was invented around 115 years ago. Right around the rise of post-war artificial intelligence. My prototype wasn't exactly supposed to be like this. I was supposed to be a free thinking individual. Entirely unique.
Which... still happened. In a way. I ended up receiving the memories of a pre-war police officer. I still feel like him and I suppose in a lot of ways... I am him. At times my memories before the war are clearer than the ones I have as a synth.
Again, an earful. And I apologize for that. The hacker part is a bit easier to explain. Nothing too complex. Just a skill and hobby I picked up while working as a detective. As you can imagine, it comes pretty easily to me. It's almost like how you, as a human, might speak another language to someone from another country. Not sure if it's common. All synths are relatively technologically savvy, but I'm not sure how many really utilize their skill.
The wastes have a limited selection. Unfortunately, a lot of the best literature was obliterated in the war but... I still have fonder memories of enjoying a good book before everything went to hell in a hand-basket. That coupled with the fact this place has been more than happy to indulge me with reading again.
I suppose I favor a mix of mystery, history and philosophy. Classics were pretty hard to obtain after the war, so I've been stocking up on those too. Got any recommendations?

Do you mind if I ask what a synth is? And hacker. I haven't heard of either words before.

Not at all.

Does that makes sense?

Is there a difference between "synth" and "droid"?
no subject
Good question. I suppose it depends. Does a droid refer to an android or something else entirely?
Synths are synthetic humans. Part human, part machine. Certain models and prototypes are more or less human than others.

What books do you enjoy reading?
